Fires and smoke in the opening of the exhibition of Italian artist Roberto Cuoghi in Slaughterhouses. The atmosphere bursting like a "hell" as the artist wanted to show.
Deste Foundation presented for another year a special project where many people and in particular the international jet set of art, found in Hydra to experience the artistic event of the year.
The artist transformed the space around Slaughterhouses in an installation with archaic techniques for firing ceramics.
Cuoghi’s exhibition is entitled “Putiferio”, in Latin “to bring the stink”. “Putiferio” may also signify chaos or a small taste of hell.
Cuoghi’s work is based on the properties and characteristics of materials both as natural entities and mental structures. Harnessing materials as diverse as wood, newspapers, raw clay and liters of invented mashes made of proteins and yeast, the artist challenges the potential of familiar materials and items to be reconfigured into chaotic assemblages that are both aesthetically and symbolically disturbing.
The exhibition runs until September 30, 2016.
